Palace Ball Preparation
Dear Princes and Princesses,
Today, we converted more fractions into percentages. There are three methods you can use:
Method 1 (Convert the denominators to 100)
E.g. 2/5 = 40/100 = 40%
Method 2 (x 100%)
E.g. 2/5 x 100% = 40%
Method 3 (Unitary Method)
E.g.
5u = 100
1u = 100/5 = 20
2u = 20 x 2 = 40
Thus, 2/5 = 40%
Hope you enjoyed the chocolates and the cake.
Homework:
1) Sorry! I made a mistake on the pages. You should do p. 69 - 72 (Practice 2) of the workbook. Please help to spread the word around to your friends if you are reading this. Thanks! Have a good weekend.

Percentage
Today, we learnt how percentage is used in real life. For example, about 7-10% of the world's population is left-handed. We also learnt how to convert fractions and decimals to percentage.
Fractions to percentage
31/100 = 31%
7/10 = 70%
1/2 = 50/100 = 50%
Decimals to percentage
0.44 = 44%
0.7 = 70%
1.25 = 125%
1 = 100%
Homework:
1) Please do p. 65 and 66 of Workbook 5B.
2) Place the ratio worksheets (from Workbook 5A) in your Maths files
3) You need today's newspapers for tomorrow's lesson.
Enjoy your evening.

Ratio Kit Revisited
Today, we went through all the problems in the ratio kit. Phew! We have finally conquered the whole kit. We'll start on Percentage tomorrow, so remember to bring your 5B workbook.
Have you figured out the pattern in the animal magic trick? Heehee......Who is brave enough to try the tapping tomorrow?
Have you solved the "termite" problem yet?
Here is the problem:
4 volumes of an encyclopedia, numbered 1 through 4 from left to right, have been placed on a shelf. Each volume has 500 pages. The thickness of each 500-page volume is 2 cm and the thickness of each cover is 0.25 cm. If a termite eats page 1 of volume 1 through page 500 of volume 4, what distance will it have travelled?
Stand to earn 10 points for your group if you write down the correct answer and steps in your notebook.
Have fun. :)

Ratio
What we did today:
We went through problem sums on ratio and you did 4 questions on your own. They are quite well-done. Remember to write the headers when you are writing ratios. Also, highlight / underline or circle the key words in the problem sums so that the sums do not seem so daunting.
There is no homework today. Do revise your work.
God bless.
